故宮書畫錄(卷八),第四冊,頁163&* 陳洪綬(西元一五九九-一六五二年),浙江諸暨人。字章侯,號老蓮。甲申後自稱悔遲,又曰勿遲。人物花鳥蟲無不精妙,皆能自出機杼。所作人物軀幹偉岸,容貌威猛,線條扭曲宛若繞指柔鋼,饒有奇趣,而又不失尺度。 先鉤勒輪廓,後賦色。既用金箋為底色,秋葵之白,白中透淡綠、紫紅,葉子之藍、綠,用色豐富,景物也滿布畫面,彩蝶蜜蜂飛舞其間,秋日之明豔照人,一見心中為之爽樂。 本幅為花卉畫冊第一幅。 &*Flowers and Insects Ch’en Hung-shou (1599-1652) Ming Dynasty Ch’en Hung-shou (style name Chang-hou and sobriquet Lao-lien) came from a gentry family in Chu-chi, Chekiang. A gifted poet, calligrapher, and painter, he held an honorary academic title but refused to serve as a court painter. With the fall of the Ming dynasty in 1644, he went into retirement and associated with other Ming loyalists and artists, later becoming a Buddhist monk. His paintings of figures, birds-and-flowers, and landscapes are all refined and display his own distinct style. In this folding fan mounted as an album leaf, the forms were first outlined with brush strokes and then filled in with color. Depicted on the decorative golden paper background are large whitish blossoms of autumn hibiscus lightly shaded with green and violet. The leaves are bluish-green in color. Indeed, the use of colors is luxuriant as the motifs fill the surface of the painting. Colorful butterflies and bees fly about the blossoms.
